I’ve been gone a while folks. Sorry bout that.
Who knows if anyone even missed me. 😉 A few things have happened while I’ve been gone. I went to Bali, Indonesia, went to Texas to see family and I started Holistic Health Coaching School at The Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Whoop whoop!! Pretty exciting stuff. See, I haven’t been slacking. Not to mention, we’ve had a fabulous spring and early summer here in Alaska so we’ve been gettin’ after it playing as much as possible. Y’all will hear more about that soon.
Bali is incredible and if you ever go, don’t go for less than 14 days! 28 days seems like the perfect number of days for me in the future. A Bali surf and yoga retreat has been on my bucket list for years and the starts finally aligned. It was better than I could’ve ever imagined. Maybe because of my state of mind or maybe just because Bali is simply heaven. Not sure. Maybe it’s both? Yes, I went alone and if you’ve never traveled alone, you must put that on your bucket list. You learn a lot and it’s quite a liberating experience.
I bought my ticket, got my annual leave approved and booked the last spot at the little slice of heaven known as Escape Haven. I seriously jumped up and down when this all actually happened!! Escape Haven is an all women’s surf, yoga and wellness retreat in Seminyak, Bali. That’s exactly what you do every day. Oh darn… surf, eat fabulous spa quality gluten-free organic food, get spa treatments, do yoga with the best yoga instructor in the world imho and meet fabulous women from all over the world with very similar reasons for being in Bali for 7 days straight!
Tickets and natural sunscreen- I’m ready!
I highly suggest going a couple days early to get your bearings and sleep off the exhaustion from the trip over. It was 33 hours of travel time for me. Worth every minute! I got there 1 day before my reservation at Escape Haven and I’m thankful I did. It gave me time to shower, eat, sleep, get a hotel room workout in to get my blood moving, hang by the pool to read and get my mind into Bali mode before getting picked up by the Escape Haven van. I laid by the pool until it was time to go to the Villa.
This was my transient hotel.
Escape Haven was top notch from the moment they picked me up from my hotel. The driver grabbed my bags, offered me a cold wet washcloth, delicious Bali Bliss protein ball and a cold bottle of water before getting in the van. There were already 3 amazing women in the van and I was the last to be picked up before heading to the Villa.
Oh the Villa…. how I love you! Can’t I just live there? I wish I could recreate this space at home but outdoor living areas don’t work well in Alaska. Dang it!I could feel my stress and anxiety drop off me with every step I took as we walked into the villa.
Like a yoga session/practice, I went to Bali with an intention set. A purpose, if you will. My intention was to find clarity, passion, de-stress, learn how to find the work-life balance and just be a kid again (at least for 8 days). I’m happy to tell you that all of that came to fruition in so many different ways and through so many random people that I can’t even begin to explain.
The staff at the Villa felt like family and were some of the most amazing women I’ve ever met. I will go back someday. Maybe with close girlfriends or maybe someday with a daughter. It would be a perfect mother daughter retreat. The Escape Haven Villa Manager, Rachel, just so happens to be in my class in the Integrative Nutrition School. How cool is that?!!! It’s funny how the world brings like minded people together from all over place.
This is pretty much what every day was like with the exception of one day going to explore Ubud, Bali:
6am Wake up, order a french press of coffee and coconut milk, get ready for surfing and breakfast
7am Group Breakfast
730am Leave for surf spot with Yeni
11 Head back to the Villa
12 Group lunch
1230-430 we would all have scheduled spa treatments of our choice, spend time by the pool, do some shopping or take naps
5-630pm Do yoga with Adelle
7pm Group Dinner
830pm Usually head to bed from exhaustion from the day… there is something about all that magnesium from the ocean that wears you out just right that helps you to melt into bed at night. We always had an inspirational note and a little gift on our beds at bedtime.
To wrap up this post, I’ll share some of my favorite pics with you. I came home with a bliss about me, new intentions set for life, not feeling the need for much, feeling the need to purge a lot of excess in my life and focus on what I really want to do in this life and how I want to help people. I’m excited to see what life has in store for me in the future. Namaste peeps! Lots of love to you.
Most of these are from our day trip to Ubud. It’s a must do if you go to Bali.
One more pic of the most amazing villa I’ve ever been to. It’s my happy place I go to when things get frustrating and tough. I miss you Escape Haven!
